Is PPC to expensive to promote a Poker Bonus site

Hi,
I’m new to any sort of web marketing and have recently set up a poker bonus site and I’m now looking to get traffic.
The problem I have with PPC advertising seems to be really expensive if you want anything sensible related to poker on Google and I was wondering if any users have tried this and know if its worth the expense?
