need advice on gaming site ads

hi
i run a gaming site ( a private world of warcraft server)
we’re an average sized server
last month(aug) was our first month and and we got 514,000 uniques( not including forums) which get another 300,000 uniques,
looking at current sept stats from 1st to 16th, we will easily cross that previous figure,
i haven’t tried any sort of ads yet, but i just sold a main page banner of the following size 500×60 which will be on top of the page along with 1 text link for $1600/month to a pvt firm.
what i want to know is this payout good, will i do better with adsense/adbrite etc,
im personally a network admin, i have no clue about adverts etc, so any help will be appreciated
