Affiliate Redirects

What’s the easiest way to redirect www.examplesite.com to my affiliate link?
Can’t I just go into my redirects in the cpanel and point the examplesite.com to my affiliate link?
I’ve read that you need to create some .htaccess file. Is that necessary??
