Affiliate noob needs help from the pros

Well, unfortunately the company I was working for, doing Internet Marketing, collapsed. In short, I lost my job.
So, now i am looking for ways to a.) occupy my time b.) make some extra money.
I’ve heard that affiliate marketing is the best way to make money although I’ve never tried it.
If anybody is willing to help me out, maybe coach me or just give me tips, that would be great.
