What Does “Enable fulltext updating” Mean?

When I go into my Admin Control Panel, the go to "Search Settings", there is this setting..
Enable fulltext updating:
Updating of fulltext indexes when posting, overridden if search is disabled.
Currently it is set to No, Im not sure wither I should leave it or not? Can someone let me know what it does please? Thanks!
