What is the easiest way to get back links?

I used to submit directory services to get back links for my blogs.
I also practiced article submission on some sites. I think all they provide is very small amount of visitors and no-follow back links.
So, let me know what's the techniques you guys use to get more do-follow backlinks to improve PR of your blogs?
