Link Building Content Relevance

Hey guys,
I want to get something clear in my head and I thought to ask a bit of help from some of you with more experience.
Let`s say I promote a web page on my website about Amazon gift cards. Now I want to use backlinks with relevant content for this page. Do you need to have content strictly about Amazon gift cards on those backlinks to have more weight, or maybe content about Sephora or America Express gift cards is still fine as long is about gift cards?
