Earnings seem low compared to impressions… Open to Suggestions

Hi Everyone,
I have just recently decided to start monetizing my website (within the last 2 months or so). For now I simply have some banners and text ads on my site. I was wondering though should I be earning more than what is shown? would incorporating interstitial, direct link or pop under ads be more helpful in maximizing my earning potential? I also don’t want to get to a point where I am spamming my visitors. Any insight would be appreciated.
