Publisher News: Proposed SOPA Privacy Law Riles Up Major Publishers

Publishers get on their SOPA boxes: Congress is considering a new law, called the Stop Online Privacy Act (SOPA) that worries many major online publishers. If passed, SOPA would give the government the power to shut down or “blacklist” websites that violate copyright laws—which, says Digiday’s Jack Marshall, could have major impacts on sites that publish or syndicate user-generated content.
Target those holiday audiences: Yahoo! introduced audience targeting solutions in time for the holiday shopping blitz. The new Proximity Match targets audiences based on the distance between their homes and business locations to help drive consumers into stores and grow offline sales. The enhanced Consumer Direct solution helps measure the impact of online campaigns on offline sales. Both are beefed up by leveraging Yahoo!’s Schwarzeneggeresque scale of 150 million users.
