Paul Cushman, Yahoo!’s senior director of mobile sales strategy, (and his dapper accent) kicked off the last day of SES NY 2011. His session, “Smart Mobile Marketing,” pinpointed exactly how mobile has changed the marketing landscape in just 18 months. Here are some critical stats that Cushman shared from Yahoo!’s Mobile Internet: Delivering on the Promise of Mobile Advertising whitepaper:

650 million mobile searches are made per month on Yahoo! and Bing.
49% of mobile searches consist of one word.
Mobile searches are less brand-specific than desktop searches. Only 3.8% of searches on mobile are brand searches.
iPad searchers mirror the dot com gender split, but mobile is more female. It’s the only platform comprised of over 50% women.
Mobile and iPad searches peak in the evening hours. Searches don’t tail off on weekends like they do on desktops. Mobile is a seven day-a-week medium.
