The careful student of the Yahoo! Advertising Blog knows that Duncan Watts of Yahoo! Labs has brought actual science to social media. Most importantly, he proved what you always knew: that most of your tweets go exactly nowhere.
Yesterday in his keynote at the Seach Engine Strategies conference in New York, Duncan revisited that theme, but with some refined science and a little more generosity—only 90% of your tweets don’t go anywhere, instead of the 99% once believed. (The good news, I guess, is that you only have to try to make 10% of your tweets any good.)
Duncan described his Twitter Influence Project, which measured millions of tweets and found that that the only things that affected a tweet’s ability to go viral is the number of followers, and whether or not the person has had a viral tweet before. Content […]
