Clicking your own Affiliate Leads

Affiliate programs that pay per leads. What if im the affiliate and the lead? Are you able to do this? Or are you not able to use your own links to sign up for offers/buy products/etc. I know you can’t click your own google adwords links, but im talking more affiliate programs that are based on leads to get you email info etc.
