Am I being naive?

I have recently been looking in to affiliate marketing to try and make some extra cash. After searcing the net for a few weeks I purchased the Rapid Mass Traffic tutorial. After studying the course I felt confident enough to invest some money and start marketing. I opened a Clickbank account and signed up with Leadimpact (depositing $200) After deciding on what seemed to be a good product I launch a campaign. Over the weekend I’ve received over 7000 clicks, which has just about wiped out my account. Unfortunately all these clicks have resulted in 0 sales. I was lead to beleive that the key to affiliate marketing was all about generating traffic. Have I been misled? Can anyone offer any advice, or is affiliate marketing just another "get rich quick schemes" ?
