newbie looking to dive into the affiliate marketing waters…

Hi Guys,
I have been looking with great interest into Affiliate Marketing for several weeks now. Having scowered the internet and reading bizillions of articles I then stumbled across this brilliant forum. Having been inspired by the many success stories on here, I am now planning on taking the plunge and giving it a go for myself. I’m fully aware at the hard graft ahead but am really motivated to make it work.
I just wanted some advice, as I’m somewhat confused on the subject of article marketing. Is the point of releasing articles on ezine etc to link these to your own website which is what helps generate traffic and enhance its position on search engine results or am I barking up the wrong tree?? Sorry if this sounds thick but the whole area of article marketing got me a bit perplexed!
