adsense help in terms of seo

HI,
since my question is more related to seo then ppc, but since my question is related to adsense I preferred to ask it here. This is my first question. I have been using adsense from 2006-2007. But at the end of 2007 my site got banned as I my site had links to other sites which contains mp3s. After that I tried bidvertiser/adbrite, but earned like 1/20 th of adsense. So now I decided to restart again with a new site and want to run adsense there. So my question is,
1. what is more important, a site on one focused topic? or a site with mixed topics.. My first one was of mixed topic, as I started it as my personal blog but later switched to humor site as I started to gain on adsense. Please reply in terms of both seo and adsense.
