WaMu Savings Accounts
Washington Mutual Bank is possibly the largest bank in America, and even if it is not number one, WaMu certainly offers some good deals when it comes to accounts. For example, they provide free checking, an account that gives you free checks, free debit transactions, and free identity theft protection, and if you link your online WaMu savings account to your free checking account, then Wamu not only waives the fees on your savings account but gives you a much higher interest rate on your account balance, as well.
Washington Mutual gives you a choice of Savings Accounts. Their statement savings requires at least a $4 opening deposit (but I’m sure that if your forget to bring enough money, that they will open your account with a 20 cent deposit) and their online savings requires a $1 initial deposit. Similarly, their free checking account requires an initial $1 deposit (although again, I am sure that if you show up with just a few nickels — because you use plastic — that the manager will be happy to oblige you).
Of course WaMu provides many additional services: various CDs, mortgages, personal loans, credit cards, and travelers checks, to name a few. And believe me, in major cities, you will find a Wamu branch every few miles. Very convenient!
