How long before ads from adbrite appear on your site?

I tried adbrite once, since many recommended it, but immediately after entering the ad code, I got the "Advertise on this site" banner in my leaderboard. It made my site look gay and cheesy, so I quickly removed it.
I’m wondering, how long do I have to tolerate that before ads start appearing?
And can you make money from adbrite’s inline word links on their own?
