Receive news of free items in your email

Now here is a really interesting not-for-profit web site: http://www.freealert.org. Basically, FreeAlert is a charitable organization that puts individuals who are looking for free items/merchandise together with individuals and organizations that are giving away free stuff. The receiving end (you) can then keep the free items or redistribute them to needy people. The service is available worldwide and puts you in touch with freebees in your local area.

Basically you sign-up for email and mobile text (mobile phone) alerts regarding the free merchandise that is available in your area. Then when you receive an alert of interest, you email or text message your reply. You can also save/read the FreeAlert RSS feed, and that way you will keep up with news about the items that are being given away.

FreeAlert had its beginnings in Washington, D.C., as a means of helping refugees, and now the founders have extended the service to the entire general public everywhere in the world. At some point you will be able to contact FreeAlert through the their feedback form, but today all I found when I tried to access the form was “Page not found.”
