Thailand Suing Google As It Wages War On Freedom
The Thai government has announced plans to sue Google in a criminal court over a YouTube video that insulted their king. Thailand, which has been increasing censorship of websites (so much so that it was dropped 20 spots on a listing of countries and press freedoms), was very angry at the video’s insulting of the king, and demanded YouTube remove it. Google did, after a bit of discussion, and banned the user, but other users have uploaded the video, so the Thai government is moving to sue Google and block YouTube entirely.
Google’s mistake was in removing the video at all. Google’s censorship in China is limited to their Chinese site, and censorship on YouTube should work the same way, only in Thailand.
