Stat Of The Week: Google Candy Worth $2.6 Billion
Here’s the craziest, most ridiculous blog post I’ve seen in quite some time: The Quizopolis blog is convinced Google is leaving money on the table by not selling candy. According to them (based on their quizes), 41% of people said they would buy Google-branded food, and if 41% of Google’s userbase bought an average of one candy bar a month, Google could pull in revenues of $2.6 billion a year, getting into a highly lucrative (and poor margin) business.
So, are there are other industries Google could conceivably get into to boost revenue on name recognition alone? Sure, they could sell t-shirts, or worse, Google-logo’d computers, but I think there’s only one industry they absolutely need to muscle in on: colored bouncy balls.
