ClearChannel Not Looking Like The Greatest Partner For Google
Last week, Google announced a deal with ClearChannel to sell ads on the company’s giant radio network. Here’s what I reported:
The deal, with radio juggernaut Clear Channel, gives Google access to 5% of all of Clear Channel’s ad inventory on its 675 radio stations and will run for several years, although exact revenue goals have not been made public. It is rumored that Google had to pay or promise a billion dollars to Clear Channel to get the deal.
The problem? On Friday, ClearChannel said it was selling 448 radio stations in 88 markets for $331 million, in order to concentrate on bigger markets. It was also selling 56 TV stations for $1.2 billion.
