Kid Fools YouTube With Fake Copyright Violation Notice
Slashdot has a story about a fifteen-year-old kid in Australia who hoodwinked YouTube into believing that he was an executive from ABC television, demanding they remove hundreds of video clips from “The Chaser’s War on Everything”. Ironically, ABC in Australia likes having Chasers clips on YouTube, and encourages them as good promotion for the show and the network, so when YouTube reacted and threatened to delete the accounts of hundreds of fans of the show, the copyright holder was mad!
“Everyone does dumb stuff when they are fifteen,” Ms Gibson told ABC Radio.
“But what was of concern to us was the fact that YouTube was sending copyright infringement notices to people who have been uploading Chaser clips to YouTube, threatening to shut down their access to YouTube if they persist. That’s what was worrying to us,” she said.
