Yahoo’s Panama, And Semel’s Big Bet, May Be Paying Off
The Rimm-Kaufmann Group is showing off this graph of its clients’ advertising spending on Yahoo, expressed as a percentage of total Google/Yahoo internet spending. As you can see, since Yahoo’s new Panama advertising system launched, the amount of money spent Yahoo’s way has greatly increased, wiping out a year’s worth of losses and possibly signaling a return to greatness for the big Y!.
Of course, the increased spending may simply be as a function of testing out the new system, and the more important graph will be the one that shows if the money continues to flow into Yahoo’s coffers a few months down the line. Terry Semel’s whole career and reputation is riding on the back of Panama, so he must be watching these reports damn closely.
