Can someone please explain adbrite to me

I see alot of posts around the internet with people thinking adbrite is better than any other service out there, that’s fine as it’s there opinions!
But is adbrite like all the other services, you list there adverts on your site and every time there’s a click you get money or is it were you pop your link there under banner ads ect..
I don’t like google adsense I won’t use it, I want to try this with adbrite, is it possible? I’ve always thought it’s a banner hosting website for people who want to buy and sell banner space. Am I right?
